Warhawks Clinch WIAC Title with Double Overtime Win

In the 103rd minute of UW-Whitewater's home match against conference foe UW-Stout, Brianna Reid (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) sent a cross into the box that Jordan Jackson (Lake Zurich, Ill./Lake Zurich) was able to redirect into the net for the game-winning header goal to seal a 1-0 victory for the Warhawks. The win at Fiskum Field in Whitewater Saturday night clinches at least a share of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title for the fifth consecutive season.

In addition to the WIAC title, the win is UW-Whitewater eleventh straight this season and twenty-eighth consecutive regular season conference victory.

After the match, head coach Ryan Quamme commented on the contest. "I'm proud of the team for keeping our composure and finding the result. UW-Stout played a great match defensively and we showed tremendous resilience to find the result and clinch a share of the WIAC Championship."

The Warhawk offense kept the pressure on throughout the match recording 12 shots including five on goal. UW-Whitewater also had the advantage on corners with 12 compared to the Blue Devils' one.

UW-Stout opened the offensive action with a shot on goal just 2:42 into the match that Jordan Myers (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) saved. Sierra High (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield Central) responded for UW-Whitewater 15 minutes later but was thwarted by Stout's goalie Paige Meyer.

Jackson posted her first scoring opportunity in the 27th minute but was turned away by the Blue Devil keeper and Marie Lesperance (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha South) put a shot on goal 31 minutes in to no avail as the teams went into intermission with no score.

The Warhawks had four corner kicks within the first ten minutes of the second period but were unable to get a shot on goal until Lesperance fired one toward the net in the 75th minute. The Stout keeper kept UW-Whitewater off the board.

UW-Stout registered the only other shot on goal in the half that Myers saved in the 84th minute.

The first overtime period followed suit with the defenses ruling the match. The teams combined for just two shots on goal and UW-Whitewater recorded one corner kick in the extra ten minutes.

Two minutes and 11 seconds into the second overtime period Reid controlled the ball in the right corner of the field. Finding an opening, she launched a cross into the box and the rest, as they say, is history.

The Warhawk defense allowed just two shots on goal in the contest and just one corner kick. Myers recorded both saves to record her ninth shutout and fourteenth win of the season.

"Sarah Sedlar (Racine, Wis./Racine Case) and Myers led an outstanding defensive effort by our team," said Coach Quamme.

Looking forward, Coach Quamme noted the importance of upcoming matches. "We will prepare for an important regional non-conference match on Tuesday at home against Macalester and look forward to building on tonight's match as we prepare for postseason play," said Quamme.
