Box Score 2 The UW-Whitewater volleyball team, ranked thirteenth in the most recent AVCA poll, topped Dominican University 3-0 (25-16, 25-23, 25-19) on the road Wednesday to even their record at 3-3 this season. The Warhawks fell to fourth ranked Elmhurst 3-2 in the first match of the triangular hosted by DU.
The Warhawks pounded down 39 kills in the match, posting double digit kills in each set. UW-W kept the DU hitters at bay with 13 total blocks including five solo and 16 assisted.
Staci Hasler (Sheboygan Falls/Sheboygan Falls) led the Warhawks offensively with 10 kills in 21 attempts with just two errors.
Kristen Ruchti (Brodhead/Brodhead) hit .438 in the match with eight kills in 16 attempts and added six blocks.
Ariel Feiertag (Brown Deer/Brown Deer) and
Alivia Holman (South Beloit, IL/Rockton Hononegah) contributed to Whitewater's 13 total blocks with six and five respectively.
Kim Frei (West Bend/West Bend West) dished out 36 of the team's 39 assists. In the backcourt,
Lauren Pfeifer (Fort Atkinson/Fort Atkinson) and
Kelsey Nobilio (Johnsburg, IL/Johnsburg) had nine digs apiece.
The Warhawks will host a triangular Friday in Kris Russell Volleyball Arena. Concordia-Wisconsin will take on North Central College at 3:00 followed by UW-W and CUW at 5:00 and finally Whitewater and NCC at 7:00.
Elmhurst Recap
The thirteenth ranked Warhawk volleyball team went the distance against fourth ranked Elmhurst College Wednesday evening but recorded the five set loss 3-2 (25-17, 21-25, 25-21, 14-25, 15-20) in the first match of a triangular hosted by Dominican University in River Forest, Illinois.
Down two sets to one, the Warhawks broke out in the fourth set of the match pounding down 16 kills with just four errors in 34 attempts for a hitting percentage of .353. The UW-W defense held the Bluejays to just .179 attack percentage at the net in the set leading to a 25-14 rout of EC to force the decisive fifth set.
Elmhurst grabbed an early lead and kept it for the win. Whitewater out-hit, out-dug and out-blocked the Bluejays in the match but committed more errors in the loss. Freshman outside hitter
