Warhawks Sweep #7 Juniata, Fall to #15 Eastern

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 The Warhawk volleyball team, ranked nineteenth in the AVCA, swept undefeated and seventh ranked Juniata College 3-0 (25-17, 28-26, 25-21) and fell to fifteenth ranked Eastern 3-1 (25-11, 25-22, 16-25, 25-17) on the final day of the Christopher Newport Invitational. Juniata had lost just five sets all season until the sweep Saturday and is now 14-1. Eastern ups their record to 15-2 overall. The Warhawks went 3-1 in the invite and are 16-5 this season.

In the match against Juniata the Warhawks held the momentum throughout the match in a true team win. UW-W hit .224 in the match adding eight service aces and seven blocks while holding Juniata to a .139 attack percentage.

Lauren Pfeifer (Fort Atkinson/Fort Atkinson) hit .611 in the match with 11 kills in 18 attempts with no errors to lead all hitters. Libero Kelsey Nobilio (Johnsburg, IL/Johnsburg) registered over half of the team's total digs with 22. Alivia Holman (South Beloit, IL/Rockton Hononegah) kept the Juniata hitters off balance with four blocks and Kim Frei (West Bend/West Bend West) dished out 35 assists.

Against Eastern UW-W got off to a slow start and never recovered. In the first game of the match UW-W hit -.036 to Eastern's .433 in the 25-11 loss. The second set was closer at 25-22 but again Eastern outhit the Warhawks.

UW-W seemed to hit their stride in the third set, smashing down fifteen kills en route to a 25-16 victory, but Eastern retaliated and made only three hitting errors in the fourth set to go on to clinch the match with a 25-17 win.

Ariel Feiertag (Brown Deer/Brown Deer) led UW-W with twelve kills and Kristen Ruchti (Brodhead/Brodhead) chipped in ten more. Holman did all she could at the net as she recorded 4 total blocks to go along with eight kills. Frei dished out 38 assists and Nobilio added 19 digs.

The Warhawks next match is against conference foe UW-Stout at 7 pm, October 4 in Menomonie, Wisconsin.

FRIDAY RECAP
The nineteenth ranked UW-Whitewater volleyball team opened the Christopher Newport Invitational with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-10, 25-17) sweep of the University of Scranton, and a 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-15) sweep of Christopher Newport Friday in Newport News, Virginia. The Warhawks improve to 15-4 this season.

In the first match UW-W hit .337 with 38 kills. The Warhawk defense held Scranton to a .000 hitting percentage allowing just 20 kills in the three set match.

Ariel Feiertag (Brown Deer/Brown Deer) shared match high honors pounding down 11 kills and hitting .400. Kim Frei (West Bend/West Bend West) posted 29 assists and Kelsey Nobilio (Johnsburg, IL/Johnsburg) was the sole player to reach double figure digs with 10.

In the match against Christopher Newport the Warhawks totaled 47 kills, 41 assists, 5 aces, and 44 digs. UW-W held CNU to a .051 hitting percentage and notched 7 blocks against their attack.

Feiertag again earned match high honors with ten kills while the usual suspects of Frei and Nobilio led the way with assists, 40, and digs, 17, respectively.

UW-W will face seventh ranked Juniata at 12:00 on Saturday, and the Warhawks will conclude the invite with a 2:00 match against fifteenth ranked Eastern.
