Warhawks Fall to Pointers

The Warhawk volleyball team had a two set lead in Stevens Point Wednesday but dropped the five setter 3-2 (27-29, 22-25, 25-16, 25-13, 15-10) snapping their 11 match win streak. UW-W is 13-4 this season and 1-1 in the WIAC. The Pointers are 13-4 overall and 2-1 league play.

Unforced errors were the story of the match. The teams were virtually even in kills, assists, digs and blocks but the Warhawks committed 40 attack errors compared to UW-SP's 23. At the service line the Pointers had eight errors, Whitewater 13.

Four Warhawk hitters posted double digit kills led by Lauren Pfeifer (Fort Atkinson/Fort Atkinson) with 13. Alivia Holman (South Beloit, IL/Rockton Hononegah) and Ariel Feiertag (Brown Deer/Brown Deer) added twelve a piece and combined for 11 blocks. Staci Hasler (Sheboygan Falls/Sheboygan Falls) had 11 kills in the match. Defensively, Kelsey Nobilio (Johnsburg, IL/Johnsburg) led all players with 21 digs. Pfeifer and Jaclyn Krizka (Roscoe, IL/Hononegah) recorded double figures with 13 digs each.

UW-W will be put to the test again at the Christopher Newport Invitational Friday-Saturday, September 27-28. Four of the five teams competing in the invite are ranked in the top 25. Friday's schedule has Whitewater facing the University of Scranton at 5:00 followed by a 7:00 matchup with #19 Christopher Newport. UW-W is set to take on unbeaten and seventh ranked Juniata College Saturday at 12:00 and #15 Eastern University at 2:00.
