Gottwald the Hero as Warhawks Remain Undefeated

Box Score John Gottwald (South Milwaukee, Wis./South Milwaukee) scored on a free kick from 20 yards out with one minute and eight seconds remaining to carry the Warhawks to a 2-1 victory over North Central College in Naperville, Illinois Sunday.  Gottwald's goal helped maintain an undefeated record for the Warhawks, 4-0-0, while the Cardinals fall to 4-2-0.

North Central struck first in the thirtieth minute when Ryan Johnson drilled one in from thirty yards out past UW-W goalkeeper Josh Rohde (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West).

The Warhawks scored the equalizer fifteen minutes later when Jordan Wilkins (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) found Kyle Sundby (Verona/Verona) for a goal off of a throw in.

The game remained scoreless for the next forty-four minutes.

In the 89th minute the Cardinals were hit with a costly yellow card and the Warhawks were rewarded with a direct free kick.  Gottwald was elected to take the free kick and for the second time this season he scored a game winning goal.

Rohde has played every minute in goal this season for UW-Whitewater and earned the win Sunday making three saves.

The Cardinals outshot the Warhawks 12-9 and the Warhawks were whistled for 17 fouls to the Cardinals' 13.

UW-W will travel to Dubuque on Tuesday for a match against the Spartans beginning at 7:00 pm.
