Box Score 4 The UW-Whitewater volleyball team ended the opening invite of the season on a high note with a 3-1 (25-21, 25-18, 20-25, 25-23) win over Wheaton College Saturday afternoon.

UW-W's hitters kept the offensive momentum going through the first two sets pounding down 29 kills while committing six errors. Defensively, the Warhawk defense held the Thunder to a sub .150 hitting percentage through two sets to take the early 2-0 lead in the match.
Wheaton won the third set to extend the match.
The fourth set was a nailbiter. Neither team led by more than three points during the the set. With Wheaton in the lead 23-20, the Warhawks took the serve and scored the next five points to win the set and the match.
Lauren Pfeifer (Fort Atkinson/Fort Atkinson) and
Ariel Johnston (Rockford, IL/Guilford) each recorded a kill and block assist in the final five points to give Whitewater the win.
Ariel Feiertag (Brown Deer/Brown Deer) provided a spark at the net leading the Warhawks with 13 kills. Johnston made good on 11 attack attempts while committing just one error for a .476 attack percentage. Pfeifer added 11 kills. Defensively at the net,
Alivia Holman (South Beloit, IL/Rockton Hononegah) kept the Wheaton hitters at bay with six blocks. Setter
Kim Frei (West Bend/West Bend West) posted 35 assists in the contest. In the backcourt,
Jaclyn Krizka (Roscoe, IL/Hononegah) and
Kelsey Nobilio (Johnsburg, IL/Johnsburg) notched double figure digs with 12 and 11 respectively.
The Warhawks will travel to River Forest, Illinois for a triangular Wednesday, September 4. UW-W will face Elmhurst College at 5:15 and Dominican at 7:15.
Transylvania Recap

Lauren Pfeifer (Fort Atkinson/Fort Atkinson) led Whitewater with 11 kills and added four assist blocks. Junior
Alivia Holman (South Beloit, IL/Rockton Hononegah) had six total blocks at the net defensively. Junior
Kim Frei (West Bend/West Bend West) dished out 33 assists and
Kelsey Nobilio (Johnsburg, IL/Johnsburg) topped the team with 13 digs.
The Warhawks will wrap up the UW-Whitewater Invitational with a 2:00 match against Wheaton.
UW-Whitewater vs. Carthage Recap
The Warhawk volleyball team fell to Carthage College 3-1 (25-22, 25-18, 12-25, 27-25) in the second match of the day Friday. UW-W beat Lawrence to open the invite that will conclude Saturday.

After trailing early in the first and second sets led to an early 2-0 deficit, the Warhawks fought back in set three. UW-W pounded down 10 kills and had just one error as a team while holding Carthage to seven kills and eight errors in the third set of the match. Whitewater took the momentum from a 25-12 win in set three into the fourth taking an early lead but the Lady Reds fought back, regained the lead and took the set 27-25.

Jessica Sabey (Merrill/Merrill) with nine. Junior setter
Kim Frei (West Bend/West Bend West) recorded 33 assists. Defensively, libero
Kelsey Nobilio (Johnsburg, IL/Johnsburg) led all players with 26 digs. Sophomore
Jaclyn Krizka (Roscoe, IL/Hononegah) added 12 digs as UW-W totaled 71 in the match.
The Warhawks will wrap up the invite Saturday with a 10:00 match against Transylvania and a 2:00 matchup with Wheaton.
UW-Whitewater vs. Lawrence Recap
The UW-Whitewater volleyball team opened the 2013 season with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-13) win over Lawrence University in the first of three UW-W invites slated for this fall.

The Warhawks posted over ten kills in all three sets totaling 34 in the match with a .304 team hitting percentage. Defensively, UW-W held Lawrence to just 10 kills and registered six total blocks in the match.Â

Whitewater will face Carthage College Friday at 7:00. The invite will conclude Saturday.
