Brom Wins 800, UW-W Third in Augie Meet

Amanda Brom (Jefferson/Jefferson) won the 800 meters to lead the UW-Whitewater women's track and field team to third place in the Augie Women's Invite in Rock Island, Illinois Saturday.

Team scores were:  Monmouth College 215.5, Augustana College 172.5, UW-Whitewater 164, Luther College 130, Loras College 127, Saint Ambrose 80, UW-Platteville 71, and the University of Dubuque 8.

Brom broke the tape in 2:14.20 in the 800, with teammate Megan Buse (Franklin/Oak Creek) coming in fourth in 2:18.87.

Jenny Winkler (St. Cloud/New Holstein) contributed team points in three events.  She was sixth in the discus at 132-1, eighth in the javelin at 84-0, and eighth in the hammer throw with a best of 129-2.   UW-W's Bethany Neuberger (Denmark/Denmark) took third in the hammer at 155-4.  Winkler placed one spot ahead of teammate Jill Hernke (Palmyra/Kettle Moraine), 122-11, in the discus, and one spot ahead of Emily Pladies (Big Bend/Mukwonago), 78-8, in the javelin. 

Kelsey Jones (Janesville/Parker), Tyler Henderson (Madison/Verona), Beth Dreikosen (Sheboygan/North) and Hailey Clabough (Batavia, IL/Batavia) all contributed team points in a pair of events.  Jones led a 2-3-4 finish for Whitewater in the 400 with her 59.44, and she took third in the 200 in 27.31.  Henderson was second in the 100 hurdles in 16.66 and fourth in the triple jump with her mark of 33-3.75.  Dreikosen followed Jones in the 400, placing third in 59.56, and she was one notch ahead of Jones in the 200 in 26.46.  Clabough crossed the line fifth in the 100 hurdles in 16.84, and she was eighth in the 400 hurdles in 1:07.71.

Amy Kahl (Huntley, IL/Huntley), 11:48.6, and Emily Kahl (Huntley, IL/Huntley), 12:00.4, finished second and third, respectively, in the 3000 meters.  JoLyn Owen (Middleton/Middleton) competed two days to earn a third place finish in the heptathlon with 4,056 points.  Melanie Pilon (Waukesha/South) went 11-2.25 to take second in the pole vault, with Whitewater's Loryn Kressin (Greenfield/Wisconsin Lutheran) fourth with a height of 10-8.25.  Lauren Strohmaier (Genoa, IL/Kingston) had another top finish for the Warhawks, taking third place in the high jump with her best of 5-1.75.

Other contributors to Whitewater's point total were Lacy Beck (Hebron, IL/Alden-Hebron), sixth in the 100 hurdles in 17.26, Jennifer Rathsack, second in the 100 in 13.10, Simone Koenen (Burlington/Burlington), fourth in the 400 in 59.72, Elizabeth Klicker (Cary, IL/Cary-Grove), sixth in the 400 hurdles in 1:09.46, and Brooke Marriott (Moline, IL/Alleman Catholic), eighth in the pole vault at 9-8.5.

UW-W will host the Drake Alternative either Friday or Saturday, April 26 or 27.  The determining factor will be weather so watch uwwsports.com and the track and field schedule for a determination.
