Women's Track & Field Deliver Solid Outing on Home Track

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's track team hosted their last indoor meet of the season with the Midwest Elite with over 25 teams in Kachel Fieldhouse over Friday and Saturday.

On Friday night, the meet kicked off with the 5000m run. With over 90 runners in five heats, the Warhawks were led by Abi Anderson (Janesville, Wis./Craig). Anderson timed in at 18:22.81, the 6th best time in program history. 

In the Saturday running events, Kelly Huerta (McHenry, Ill./McHenry) reached the finals of the 60m with a 7.86 prelim. Huerta improved her time in the finals, finishing 6th overall with a time of 7.81.

In the 200m, Alyssa Stacy (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) set a personal best for a 9th place finish. Stacy timed in at 25.94 in the one-lap race.

The Warhawks had two runners in the top 10 of the 400m run. Sophie Beightol (Belgium, Wis./Cedar Grove-Belgium) set a personal best with a 59.55 to place sixth overall. Hannah Bilodeau-Wahl (Machesney Park, IL/Harlem) placed 9th overall with a 1:00.29 for a season best. 

In the 1 mile run, Katie Erb (Winnebago, Ill./Winnebago) was the first to cross, earning gold with a season best 5:05.51. Emma Henningfeld (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) also finished in the top-five, with a personal best 5:12.57 finish.

Madison Wnek (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) and Nicole Brown (Grayslake, Ill./Grayslake) took the top two spots of the 3000m. Wnek timed in at 11:12.90 for gold, while Brown was less than two seconds behind with a 11:14.51 finish for second. Kyra Krenz and Abby Motz (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) also recorded personal-bests in the event finishing in the top-10.

Abby Burr (Lancaster, Wis./Lancaster) cleared the 1.59m bar in the high jump to place fifth overall. Four other Warhawks were able to clear the 1.54m bar, including Danielle Pouska (Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs), Brynn Fuerstenberg (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower), Amanda Hillman, and Zoe Roder (Waukesha, Wis./South). 

For the horizontal jumps, the Warhawks were led by Cherish Smith (Beloit, Wis./Turner) and Faith Gaston (Gurnee, Ill./Warren), both reaching personal bests on the day. Smith had a 5.22m mark as her best jump, with Gaston reaching 5.05m. In the triple jump, Lexie Weier (Mineral Point, WI/Mineral Point) was the top Warhawk finisher, placing 7th overall with a 10.59m mark.

Over in the throws, Jenna Wilkinson (Sun Prairie, WI/Sun Prairie) led the Warhawks in the shot put, reaching the finals with 11.58m toss. Wilkinson saved her best for last with an 11.70m toss on her final throw of the day.

Lou Matulenko (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) and Ryleigh Czarnecki (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) both reached the finals of the weight throw. Matulenko placed 7th overall with a 14.92m toss on her first throw. Czarnecki placed eighth overall with a 14.89m throw.

The Warhawks will compete at UW-La Crosse in the Eagle Invite next Friday, February 20th.
