Gymnasts Top Winona State on the Road

The UW-Whitewater gymnastics team defeated Winona State University 184.775-182.675 on the road Saturday afternoon. The Warhawks posted top twenty marks for team scores in the school record book on the vault and balance beam in the meet. Whitewater gymnasts had at least a share of the individual titles in three of the four events.

Meet Results

UW-W started the meet on the uneven bars. Katie Thompson (Kingsport, TN/Sullivan South)'s routine scored a 9.4, the best in the event. Teammates Annie Mix (Olive Branch, MS/SBEC), Allyse Dieringer (Germantown, WI/Germantown), Jen McKiernan (Tinley Park, IL/Victor J. Andrew) and Mary Kate Young (Lawrenceville, GA/Cullins Hill) added to Thompson's score to give the Warhawks a team total of 44.700 on the apparatus.

Trailing after the first rotation, Whitewater bounced back on the vault with a team total of 47.200, the thirteenth best score in UW-W history in the event. Thompson tied two Warrior gymnasts for the top spot on the vault with a 9.5. Three Warhawks tied for fourth with 9.45's including Siri Wischmann (Delano, MN/Delano), Cici Talcott (Kentwood, MI/East Kentwood) and Hannah Lee (Clarksville, TN/Clarksville).

UW-W took to the floor in the third rotation. Wischmann led the Warhawks with a 9.525, third in the meet. Young and Steffi Heuer (Clarksville, TN/Middle College at APSU) tied for fifth with performances scoring 9.325. The team total was 46.250.

Ending the meet on the balance beam, UW-W posted a team total of 46.625, also a top twenty score in the school's record book. Wischmann topped the competition with a routine scoring 9.5. Young tied for second with a 9.375 followed by three more Warhawks, Kristen Shackleton (New Lenox, IL/Lincoln Way Central), Lee and Megan Love (Henrico, VA/Godwin), in fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.

The Warhawks will return to Whitewater to host Hamline University Saturday, March 2 at 5:00. The meet has been designated the annual Senior Night.
