Warhawks Fly Past Eagles 85-53

Box Score WHITEWATER, Wis. - The Warhawks used a double-double performance from KJ Evans (Beloit/Beloit Memorial) and efficient shooting from Reggie Hearn (Milwaukee/Marshall) to top Edgewood College 85-53 in Kachel Gym Monday night. Evans posted a game high 20 points and 11 boards with eight rebounds in the first half and 18 points in the second half. Hearn was 7-9 from the field with 15 points in the Warhawk win. UW-Whitewater is 9-2 this season and Edgewood falls to 6-5.

Edgewood scored the first bucket of the game and then took a 6-4 lead with 13:25 left in the first half. From that point on, Whitewater took over the game. The UW-W lead steadily increased until it hit double digits nearing the end of the half. Hearn scored the final six points of the half for the Warhawks as UW-W took a 33-23 lead into the locker rooms. 

Hearn was a perfect 6-6 from the floor with 12 points in the half. UW-W shot 48% from the field in the first twenty minutes and held the Eagles to 35%. 

The Warhawks opened the second half with a 7-0 run to go up 41-26 with 17:32 on the clock. Evans took over the game midway through the half with nine straight points for UW-W from the 13:10 mark until his jumper at 11:16 gave Whitewater a 60-37 lead. Whitewater's largest lead in the game was 36 after two Cole van Schyndel free throws made the score 82-46 with just under four minutes remaining in the game. 

The Warhawks shot 46% from the floor and 36% from long range adding 15-21 from the free throw line. Edgewood shot 37% from the field, just 12% from downtown and were 9-14 from the charity stripe. UW-W held a 46-34 advantage on the glass including six more offensive boards in the game. 

Thirteen Warhawks scored in the game led by Evans and Hearn's combined 35. Quardell Young (Kenosha/Bradford) added eight points, five rebounds, five assists, three steals and a blocked shot. The Eagles were led by Justin Williams with 12 points. 

Whitewater will remain at home for a league matchup against UW-River Falls Saturday, January 4 at 7:00 in Kachel Gym.
