Gymnasts Compete in Texas

The Warhawk women's gymnastics team, the top ranked Division III team, competed in a quadrangular competition hosted by Texas Women's University in Denton, Texas Saturday evening. The meet featured two top 25 Division I teams including Arizona, ranked thirteenth, and #25 BYU. Host school, TWU is the top ranked DII team in the nation. Arizona won the quad with a team total of 195.800. BYU was second with 193.450 followed by TWU with 191.475 and UW-W with 185.900.

Results

The Warhawks started the evening on the floor exercise and totaled the fifth best score in UW-W history with 47.900. Mary Kate Young (Lawrenceville, GA/Cullins Hill) led the way with 9.65 followed by Cici Talcott (Kentwood, MI/East Kentwood), 9.625, and Katie Thompson (Kingsport, TN/Sullivan South) had 9.6. Steffi Heuer (Clarksville, TN/Middle College at APSU) added to the team total with a 9.575 and Kaitlyn Weber (Kansas City, MO/Oak Park)'s routine scored 9.45.

UW-Whitewater's total vault score of 47.700 in the second rotation ties for fifth best in the UW-W record book. Megan Love (Henrico, VA/Godwin) and Thompson both registered a 9.575. Talcott and Wischmann matched each other with scores of 9.525 and Weber rounded out the five scoring routines with a 9.5.

Annie Mix (Olive Branch, MS/SBEC) led the Warhawks with a 9.675 on the uneven bars. Her score ties for the fifth best by a Warhawk gymnast on the apparatus in school history.

Whitewater ended the night on the balance beam. Heuer led the Warhawks with a 9.625 followed by Wischmann with 9.6. Hannah Lee (Clarksville, TN/Clarksville) posted a 9.325 as the team totaled 46.425 in the event.

The Warhawks last competed against higher division teams in 2010 where the team traveled California for a meet hosted by the University of California-Davis.

UW-Whitewater will host UW-Oshkosh in the first home meet of the season Saturday, January 26 beginning at 4:00.
