Carroll Tops Kickers 2-1

Box Score It wasn't for lack of opportunities.  UW-W put nine shots on goal to Carroll University's three, but Carroll won 2-1 in Waukesha Wednesday evening.

Whitewater had the first two shots on goal, four of the first five, and six of the nine in the first half.  Carroll did not put a shot on goal in the second half to Whitewater's three.

Sam Novak (Milton, Wis./Milton) put the ball on net first, at 5:20, but Pioneer goalie Tomek Miaskowski made the first of nine saves.  Novak came at Miaskowski again at 14:51, with the same result.

Twenty seconds later Carroll turned the ball around on the field and Nemanja Medic scored his fourth goal of the season off an assist by Jacob Tincher to put CU in front 1-0.

UW-W's Bob Shone (St. Charles, IL/St. Charles East) tested Miaskowski at 18:58, followed by Michael Montanye (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) at 19:44.  Still 1-0.

At 20:25 Carroll's Liam Michener notched his first goal of the season on the Pioneers' second shot on goal of the period, assisted by Colton Wojak for a 2-0 advantage.  Michener got another shot off at 21:25, but Matt Mikesell (Waukesha/Kettle Moraine) denied him.

Novak finally broke the ice with his third goal of the season at 22:59 off a pass from Sam Kuchenreuther (Brown Deer, Wis./Brown Deer), his first assist of 2012.

Alex Szarzynski (Greenfield/South Milwaukee) got yet another shot at Miaskowski at 23:48, but the teams went into intermission with a 2-1 Carroll lead.

In the second half Austin Saari (River Falls/River Falls) (56:44), Shone (58:36), and Jonathan Fischer (67:01) all put shots on goal, but Miaskowski saved the win for Carroll.

Whitewater led 4-1 in corner kicks.  Carroll had five offsides calls to none for UW-W, and the teams had eleven fouls apiece.

Carroll is 6-4.  UW-W, 4-2-1, will play at Wartburg College Sunday at 4:00.  The next home game for the Warhawks will be Thursday the fourth, when Platteville visits Fiskum Field for a 7:00 start.  Fiskum Field is west of Perkins Stadium and northwest of Williams Center/Kachel Fieldhouse on the north end of the UW-W campus.  Free parking is adjacent to the field.
