Kickers Top UW-EC 2-1 on the Road

Box Score The Warhawk women's soccer team doubled their goal output for the season in a 2-1 win over UW-Eau Claire on the road Saturday afternoon.

The Blugold goalie was busy in the first half as the UW-W offense kept constant pressure on the UW-EC defense. Christina Tooren (Hoffman Estates, IL/Hoffman Estates) had her first opportunity in the twelfth minute but the shot was saved by Nina Behrenbrinker. Less than two minutes later, Behrenbrinker thwarted Jessica Allemang (Wauwatosa/Wauwatosa West)'s attempt at a goal.

Kelsey Finn (Glendale/Nicolet) put the Warhawks on the board beating the EC goalie with her first goal of the season at 27:03. Erin Mrazek (Lombard, IL/Glenbard East) headed a ball on target but the shot was saved by Eau Claire's goalie. Whitewater totaled six shots in the first half while the defense limited the Blugolds to just two shots with Jordan Myers (Aurora, IL/Waubonsie Valley), UW-W's goalie, getting no action in the first 45 minutes. UW-W also had a big advantage in corner kicks with five in the first half to EC's one.

The Blugolds turned the tables on the Warhawks in the second half recording four more shots and five more corner kicks in the second 45 minutes. However, it was still UW-W that provided the first offensive strike with Christina Tooren (Hoffman Estates, IL/Hoffman Estates) notching her second goal of the season less than five minutes into the second half.

Eau Claire would bounce back with some offense of their own with Paige LeGate passing a ball into the box that was headed into the back of the net by Gina Williams for her second goal of the season in the fifty-eighth minute. The Warhawk defense would hold strong for the rest of the game with Myers saving two attempts that could have tied the game.

The halves evened out with the final stats showing 11 shots for each team and Eau Claire with one corner kick than UW-W but it was the Warhawks with the most important advantage, a 2-1 lead in goals when the final horn blew.

Myers improves her record in the goalie box to 2-3 this season as Blugold goalie Behrenbrinker falls to 1-4-1.

The Warhawks will host Concordia University (WI) Monday, September 17 at 7:00 at Fiskum Field.
