UW-W Tops Rockford and Carroll in Triangular

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The UW-Whitewater women's volleyball team, ranked tenth in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, topped Rockford College in the opening match and defeated Carroll University 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-17) in the nightcap of the UW-Whitewater Triangular Wednesday evening. The two 3-0 sweeps give the Warhawks their fourth consecutive win and an 8-2 record on the season.

Carroll Recap
Much like the first match of the day, UW-W got out to a quick start in the first set with the help of Chelsea Mutton (Rockford, IL/Rockford East)'s three service aces as the Warhawks rattled off 10 straight points with Mutton at the service line. UW-W would put down 12 kills hitting .346 in the set while holding the Pioneers to just five kills and forcing seven hitting errors.

The Warhawks committed just two attack errors in set two with 13 kills en route toa 25-15 win to take the 2-0 lead in the match. Whitewater's offense went to work in set three pounding down 19 kills while the Warhawk defense held Carroll to a .083 attack percentage. UW-W took set three 25-17 to sweep the Pioneers.

Leanna Lillge (Ixonia/Watertown) and Jessica Sabey (Merrill/Merrill) shared match high honors with 10 kills a piece. Brittney Langley (Winnebago, IL/Winnebago) added nine more from the right side and all three Warhawk hitters hit above .345 in the match. Holman led all players defensively at the net with five total blocks (1 solo, 4 assisted) and Langley combined with teammates on four more. Kim Frei (West Bend/West Bend West) took on the setting duties dishing out 35 of the team's 40 total assists. Three Whitewater defensive players notched double figure digs led by libero Kelsey Nobilio (Johnsburg, IL/Johnsburg)'s 15. Mutton and Frei each posted ten digs in the match.

The Warhawks will travel to River Falls, Wisconsin Friday and Saturday, September 14-15 for an invite hosted by UW-River Falls. UW-W will take on St. Thomas and UW-Stevens Point at 5:30 and 7:30 Friday with Saturday's contests at 10:00 and 2:00 against St. Scholastica and Gustavus Adolphus.

Rockford Recap
The Warhawks jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first set and rolled to a 25-10 win with the UW-W hitters combining for 17 kills in 33 attempts with a .424 attack percentage.

Whitewater notched a 25-15 set two win despite hitting .176 in the set to take a 2-0 lead in the match. The Warhawks pounded down 19 kills in set three but committed 11 errors allowing Rockford to remain close but UW-W prevailed with a 25-22 win for the sweep.

Leanna Lillge (Ixonia/Watertown) recorded nine kills to lead UW-W, in just one set played. Lillge hit .571 in the set committing one error in 14 total attempts. Jessica Sabey (Merrill/Merrill) and Lauren Grant (Antioch, IL/Antioch) added seven kills each to Whitewater's total. Setters Heidi Buss (Cedarburg/Cedarburg) and Kim Frei (West Bend/West Bend West) split time dishing out a combined 40 assists in the match. Defensively, libero Kelsey Nobilio (Johnsburg, IL/Johnsburg) posted 19 digs. Nobilio has recorded double digit digs in every match this season.

The Warhawks will face Carroll University at 7:00 Wednesday night to round out play in the UW-Whitewater Triangular.
