UW-Whitewater made its first appearance in the NCAA tournament last year. The Warhawks defeated Aurora University 2-0 in the first round and topped Wartburg College 6-5 in the regional final to advance to the sweet sixteen. UW-W lost to Wheaton 4-1 in the sectional round.
The Warhawks are coming off their third consecutive
Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship. UW-W shared the crown in 2010, but won it outright in 2011 and this fall. Whitewater earned its NCAA berth by winning the WIAC Tournament and the league's automatic qualification that goes with that title.
