Warhawks Third in WIAC Tourney, Await NCAA Bid

Box Score The UW-Whitewater women's volleyball team swept UW-Oshkosh 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-20) to take third place in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament Saturday afternoon. The win brings UW-W's season record to 25-11. The Warhawks will await a bid into the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III tournament, to be announced Monday, November 5.

The first set remained relatively close until UW-W went on a 9-2 run to finish out the set, led by Brittney Langley (Winnebago, IL/Winnebago)'s three kills. Kristen Ruchti (Brodhead/Brodhead) gave the Warhawks the 25-19 first set win pounding down a kill for the final point.

Set two ran an almost identical course to the first set. A fairly close set at the beginning turned into a duel mid-set, and then Whitewater went on a 7-1 run to end the set with the same 25-19 score.

The Warhawks changed things up in the third set, making their move in the middle of the set instead of at the end. An 11-1 mid-set run gave the Warhawks a 17-13 lead, an advantage they wouldn't lose leading to a 25-20 third set win and match sweep of the Titans.

Leanna Lillge (Ixonia/Watertown) led all players with 13 kills in the match and added three assist blocks. Ruchti added ten kills and a match high four assist blocks. Ariel Johnston (Rockford, IL/Guilford) recorded a .800 attack percentage with eight kills in ten attempts. Kelsey Nobilio (Johnsburg, IL/Johnsburg) posted 11 digs in the contest.
