Warhawks Continue Streak at Oshkosh

Box Score UW-Whitewater, ranked fifth in the D3hoops.com poll, upped its record to 16-1 overall and 7-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a 62-45 win at UW-Oshkosh Wednesday night.

Oshkosh was as cold as Cruella Deville's heart to open the game, missing their first nine shots from the field.  John Flanigan's two free throws at 12:34 were the first points on the board for the Titans.  Fortunately for UW-O, Whitewater wasn't shooting five alarms, with Flanigan's points making it 8-2 in favor of UW-W.

Oshkosh pulled within one twice in the first half, on a Flanigan layup at 8:07 to cut Whitewater's lead to 14-13, and again with 3:36 left and UW-W in front 23-22.  UW-W took a 30-26 lead into the lockerroom.

UW-W shot 45% from the field in the first half, Oshkosh 38%.  Both teams were 3-7 from three point range, but Oshkosh went 5-5 from the line and Whitewater 1-2.  Whitewater senior forward Alex Edmunds (Cedarburg/) led both teams with eight points, also grabbing five rebounds.  Cory Nickel was 2-3 from the field, all of them on three point attempts, to lead UW-O.

UW-W blew out of the lockerroom with a 15-0 run, upping their lead to 45-26 with 14:57 left in the game.  Five Warhawks scored in that run.  It took Oshkosh more than five minutes, until 14:50, to score their first points of the half.  UW-W rolled on to a 50-28 lead, their largest margin of the game, with 11:37 left.  UW-O never pulled closer than 15 points the rest of the way.

Whitewater, the second best field goal shooting team in Division III at 52%, made 49% of their shots while the Titans shot 40%.  UW-W accumulated 12 steals and turned the ball over just seven times, tying a season best also accomplished versus Edgewood College January 4.

Edmunds, playing in his second game this season, led UW-W with a double double, 14 points and game high ten rebounds.  He was joined in double figures by four teammates, Luke Knoble (Boscobel/Boscobel) with 12, Cody Odgegaard 11, and Eric Bryson (Elkhorn/Elkhorn) and Lucas Burns (Janesville/Craig) ten each.  Bryson dished out seven assists.  Oshkosh was led by Flanigan and Dylan Wurtz, both with 11 points.  Flanigan also shared game rebounding honors with Edmunds with 10.

UW-Oshkosh is 4-13 overall and 0-8 in the WIAC.

Whitewater played without senior center Chris Davis (Madison/East), the WIAC's leading scorer and number eight scorer in Division III at 24.6 per game, who has an injury.

The Warhawks will travel to Menomonie to face UW-Stout Saturday for a 6:00 tipoff.  The next home game for UW-W is January 25 at 7:00 with UW-Stevens Point visiting Kachel Gym in Williams Center.
