Coming off of their first ever Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title in school history, the UW-Whitewater women's soccer team (1-0) kicked off the 2011 season with a 5-1 victory over Concordia University (WI) (0-1) Thursday in Mequon. This was the season opener for both teams who have now met six times with UW-W holding a 5-0-1 record over the Falcons. The Falcon goal in Thursday's game was the first goal they have ever scored against the Warhawks.
Pamela Lisowe (New Holstein/New Holstein) scored the first goal of the season for UW-W in the seventeenth minute of the game off a pass from
Emily Gerber (DeForest/DeForest). Gerber assisted the second goal as well about twelve minutes later when
Riley Kirchoff (Pewaukee/Pewaukee) found the back of the net to give UW-W a 2-0 lead.
Lisowe notched her third point of the game aiding junior midfielder
Alyssa Chamberlain (De Pere/De Pere) in her first goal as a Warhawk just shy of three minutes into the second half.
The Falcons tallied a goal 59 seconds later to pull within two goals but the 'Hawks countered with another goal in the 57th minute.
Laren Nashleanas (Brookfield/East) knocked one past the Falcon net minder off of a pass from Chamberlain.
Kelsey Kohlbeck (Sauk City/Sauk Prairie) notched the fifth and final UW-W goal in the 76th minute. Freshman midfielder
Kaitlin Traverse (Sussex/Sussex Hamilton) assisted on the goal.
Jordan Myers (Aurora, IL/Waubonsie Valley) made two saves for the Warhawks and allowed the lone goal before giving way to
Jacqueline Piasecki (Elk Grove Village, IL/Conant) who finished the match.
UW-W outshot Concordia 18-8 in the match and recorded five corner kicks to the Falcons' one.
Twenty-four different Warhawks saw action in the game. UW-W's roster features 14 freshmen, four sophomores, five juniors and four seniors.
The 'Hawks will play their next game at home on September 7 when they host Loras College on Welcome Back Students and Staff/Faculty Recognition Night. Kick-off is slated for 5:30 pm at Fiskum Field on the campus of UW-Whitewater.
