Warhawks Edged on Shootout in WIAC Tourney Final

Box Score

UW-Whitewater, champions of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, fell in the WIAC Tournament final on shootout (which even went an extra player) to fourth seeded UW-Oshkosh.  The game is officially recorded as a 1-1 tie, but the Titans earned the league's automatic berth in the NCAA III tournament on the basis of a 4-3 margin in the shootout that followed two overtime periods.

Oshkosh had the first opportunity to light up the scoreboard, Chelsea Kierszh at 13:43 on a shot that Jordan Myers (Aurora, IL/Waubonsie Valley) saved.

Laren Nashleanas (Brookfield/East) had Whitewater's first shot on goal at 30:47, but the Titans' Brittany Walder made the save.

At 44:18 Jessica Allemang (Wauwatosa/West) closed in on the goal for UW-W, got off the shot, but again, Walder made the save to send the teams to intermission at 0-0.

Christina Tooren (Hoffman Estates, IL/Hoffman Estates) made a bid for the Whitewater lead at 61:50 only to be denied by Walder.

On just their second shot on goal, at 64:47, Oshkosh's Chelsea Kierszh found the back of the net to put the Titans on the board.

The Warhawks pressed the offensive zone with Tooren again in front of the net.  Her shot hit the post, and she followed up with her eleventh goal of the season, knotting the game at 1-1.

UW-W had two more shots on goal in regulation, but Walder kept the game tied while the Whitewater defense was keeping the Titans away from Myers.

If this had been wrestling (where there is riding time) UW-W would have been on the clock for the first overtime, pressing into the Oshkosh defensive zone, resulting in the only shot by either team in the period.  Alyssa Chamberlain (De Pere/De Pere) took the shot, and Walder stopped it.

There were no shots on goal in the second overtime in the period.

After 110 minutes of soccer it came down to a shootout --- and these teams evened needed extra shooters to break the deadlock.

The shootout order:
