With a 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-16) victory over UW-Stout in Menomonie Saturday, the UW-Whitewater volleyball team claimed their fourteenth Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title.  The Warhawks are tri-champions with UW-Stevens Point and UW-Eau Claire.  UW-W finishes the regular season with a record of 24-7 overall and 7-1 in the WIAC.  The Blue Devils fall to 5-23 overall and 1-7 in the WIAC.

Box score

Sofia Sanchez (Janesville/Craig) and Leanna Lillge (Ixonia/Watertown) led the offensive attack for the Warhawks with 13 and 10 kills respectively.  The Warhawks hit .333 in the match to UW-Stout's .152.

Heidi Buss (Cedarburg/Cedarburg), who is now 49 assists away from 1,000 this season, dished out 33 of the team's 34 assists and recorded eight digs.  Kelli Trautmann (Seymour/Little Chute) led the defense with thirteen digs and Alyssa Bauer (Naperville, IL/Central) chipped in nine.  UW-W recorded three service aces in the match, one each by Trautmann, Sanchez, and Bauer.  Trautmann leads the team in aces with 39.

For the first time in WIAC history three teams share the volleyball title.  UW-W claims the number two seed in the WIAC tournament and a first round bye by virtue of the head-to-head tiebreaker.  The Pointers defeated both UW-W and UW-EC to earn the top seed while UW-W defeated UW-EC to earn the two seed.  The Warhawks will play the winner of the UW-River Falls and UW-Eau Claire quarterfinal match in the semifinals on Friday at UW-Stevens Point at 5:00 pm.  The winner of the WIAC tournament earns an automatic berth in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III championship tournament.
