The UW-Whitewater women's volleyball team, ranked twenty-first in the most recent American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, didn't let a slow start throw them off in grinding out a 3-2 (13-25, 25-23, 25-21, 19-25, 15-5) win over UW-Oshkosh on the road Wednesday night.

The Warhawks could have fallen apart after stumbling to a 25-13 loss in the first set but they didn't. UW-W bounced back and battled to take set two 25-23 to even the match 1-1.
Whitewater used an 8-3 mid-set run to provide a cushion in another close set leading to a 25-21 third set win over the Titans.
Oshkosh turned the tables on UW-W, going on a 10-2 run to end set four with a 25-19 advantage knotting the match at two sets apiece and forcing the decisive fifth set.
Both teams traded points until, with a score of 5-4 in favor of Whitewater, the Warhawks opened up the set and allowed the Titans to score only once more in the set in a 15-5 rout of UW-O to win the match.
Sofia Sanchez (Janesville/Craig) led both teams with 18 kills, the most this season for a Warhawk, and added four assist blocks and 12 digs.
Leanna Lillge (Ixonia/Watertown) pounded down 10 kills in the match. Defensively at the net,
Lauren Grant (Antioch, IL/Antioch) made good on six assist blocks. Three Warhawks joined Sanchez with double figure digs led by
Kelsey Nobilio (Johnsburg, IL/Johnsburg) with 19,
Alyssa Bauer (Naperville, IL/Central) added 17 and
Heidi Buss (Cedarburg/Cedarburg) recorded 10.
The Warhawks improve to 22-7 and 5-1 in conference play. The Titans fall to 17-16 and 3-3 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Whitewater will continue league play Friday, October 28 in River Falls for a 7:00 match-up with UW-RF.
