The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater gymnastics team opened the 2011 season with a 179.375-163.925 win at Gustuvas Adolphus College in Saint Peter, Minnesota Saturday night. UW-W took first and second place, at least, in all four individual events and the all-around competition.

UW-W took the top three spots in the vault, led by
Allison Nelson (Naperville, IL/Neuqua Valley)'s 9.5. She was followed by
Katrin Finch (Boise, ID/Boise) at 9.25 in second, and
Leah Applin (Brooklyn Park, MN/Champlin Park) third with a 9.2. The uneven bars team swept the top five spots, with
Allyse Dieringer (Germantown, WI/Germantown), 9.475,
Annie Mix (Olive Branch, MS/SBEC), 9.425, and
Katie Thompson (Kingsport, TN/Sullivan South), 8.7 going 1-2-3. Finch won the beam with a 9.225, and Dieringer was second at 9.05. In the floor exercise, Finch went one at 9.275 and was followed by
Mary Kate Young (Lawrenceville, GA/Cullins Hill)'s 9.175 and
Siri Wischmann (Delano, MN/Delano) with a 9.1 as the Warhawks notched the top six scores in event.
Katie Thompson (Kingsport, TN/Sullivan South) placed first in the all-around competition, totaling 35.075.
The Warhawks will open the home portion of their schedule Saturday, January 15, hosting Hamline University at 2:00 in gym three of Williams Center on the UW-W campus.
