Eerily similar to Friday night's contest against Emory University, Saturday's first match came down to the deciding fifth set. The first four sets played out much like a rollercoaster with ups and downs, momentum swings and lead changes.
The fifth set wasn't any different. The Warhawks jumped out to a quick 8-4 lead to force the side switch. However, Carthage didn't fold, keeping constant pressure on UW-W as the Lady Reds scored nine of the last ten points in the set including eight unanswered to take set five 15-12 and the match 3-2.
Three Warhawk hitters recorded double figure kills.
Caitlin Hogan (New London/New London) led the way with 16,
Sofia Sanchez (Janesville/Craig) added 13 and
Katy Krajnak (Racine/Case) put down 11 kills in the contest.
Christina DeGroot (Kewaskum/Kewaskum) dished out all but two of the assists posting 57 in the match.
Defensively, five Warhawks recorded double digit digs.
Alyssa Bauer (Naperville, IL/Central) recorded her 25th consecutive double figure dig match with 22, Degroot had 15, Sanchez added 12,
Kelli Trautmann (Seymour/Little Chute) posted 11 and Hogan had 10.
UW-W continues play in the UW-Whitewater Invitational Saturday afternoon against twenty-second ranked University of Chicago at 2:00 pm.
