The UW-Whitewater women's volleyball team, ranked eighth in the American Volleyball Coaches Association top 25 poll defeated UW-Stevens Point 3-1 (25-11, 25-18, 23-25, 27-25) in the conference opener Wednesday night.

The Warhawks pounded down 52 kills in the match hitting .238 in the contest to the Pointers' .121. UW-W doubled the number of service aces UW-SP had with 10.
Four Warhawks posted double figure kills including Katy Krajnak (Racine/Case) with 14, Caitlin Hogan (New London/New London) recorded 13, Sofia Sanchez (Janesville/Craig) added 12 and Shaela Hayden (Harvard, IL/Harvard) contributed with 10. Middle blocker Ariel Johnston (Rockford, IL/Guilford) added one solo and three assist blocks in the match. Christina DeGroot (Kewaskum/Kewaskum) dished out 41 assists to the Whitewater hitters. Three Warhawks recorded double figures in digs with Alyssa Bauer (Naperville, IL/Central) leading the team with 17, Kelli Trautman (Seymour/Little Chute) added 13 and DeGroot had 11.
UW-W improves to 9-1 this season with a 1-0 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference record. UW-SP falls to 8-3 on the season and 0-1 in conference play.
The Warhawks will travel to Eau Claire for the next WIAC match-up Friday, September 17 at 7:00 pm.
