The UW-Whitewater volleyball team, ranked eleventh in the Division III American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, swept both Trinity International University (25-17, 25-13-12) and Carroll University (25-19, 25-7, 25-15) Friday in the second UW-Whitewater Invitational of the season.

Despite an early deficit in the first set, the Warhawks came back with an 8-2 run to take the lead 14-8. UW-W kept the pressure on and rolled to a first set 25-17 win.
Whitewater jumped out to a quick lead 10-4 in set two and steadily increased their lead to take the set 25-13.
A 10-1 run in the final set gave UW-W all the momentum it would need to take the set 25-12.
Whitewater pounded down 39 kills in the match while missing just 10 times in 98 total attempts.
Caitlin Hogan (New London/New London) led the Warhawks at the net with 15 kills and one error in 28 attempts in the match. Three Warhawks posted double figures in digs including
Alyssa Bauer (Naperville, IL/Central) with 19,
Christina DeGroot (Kewaskum/Kewaskum) with 13 and
Sofia Sanchez (Janesville/Craig) contributed 11. Sanchez added four service aces, a solo block and two assist blocks in the match.
Match Two vs. Carroll University

The first set went back-and-forth with each team exchanging points until, with the scored tied 9-9, the Warhawks picked up some momentum. A couple of small runs gave Whitewater the opening it needed as they went on to win the first set 25-19.
The Pioneers couldn't defend the big swings from the Warhawk hitters in set two. UW-W held Carroll to just seven points set coupled with a 17-3 run put the game out of reach for CU as Whitewater went up 2-0 with a 25-7 win.
UW-W continued to attack at the net in the third set. Hit after hit UW-W wore down the Pioneers and Whitewater took the set 25-15 and the match 3-0.
Whitewater posted 16 kills in each of the first two sets with Sanchez leading the charge with 18 kills in 27 attempts with just two errors. DeGroot dished out 34 assists and added three aces. Bauer led the Warhawks defensively with 13 digs.
Ariel Johnston (Rockford, IL/Guilford) contributed with a solo block and three assist blocks in the match.
The Warhawks have now swept four straight opponents to improve this season's record to 8-1.
UW-W opens the conference season with a home match against UW-Stevens Point Wednesday, September 15 at 7:00 pm.
