Five Top 5 Finishes Put 'Hawks in Fourth After Day One of WIAC Championships

The Warhawk men's track and field team used five top five finishes and a seventh place finish to put themselves in fourth place out of nine teams after day one of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in River Falls.

#R.J. Soderman and (Hartland/Hartland Arrowhead)David Schneekloth# were the top Warhawk finishers on Friday taking second in the javelin and 10,000 meters respectively.  Soderman's throw of 51.6 meters (169 feet, 3 inches) earned eight team points while Schneekloth's time of 31:21.77 did the same.  Schneekloth's time in the 10,000 is a season best by almost twelve seconds.

A third place finish by Shaun Davis (Edgerton/Edgerton) in the hammer throw earned six team points and improved on an already provisionally qualifying distance he threw earlier this season.  Davis' distance of 56.03 meters (183 feet, 10 inches) is a season best.

Dave Kuczynski (Brown Deer/Brown Deer) chipped in a fourth place finish in the long jump with a leap of 6.86 meters (22 feet, 6.25 inches).  The Warhawks also had a team run the 4x800 meter relay and finish fifth in a time of 7:53.29.  Both Kuczynski and the 4x800 meter relay team recorded season bests.

Also earning points for UW-W was Ben Stringer (Assumption, IL/Central A&M) who finished seventh in the javelin with a distance of 46.72 meters (153 feet, 3 inches).

Team scores after day one: UW-La Crosse 75, UW-Oshkosh 52, UW-Stevens Point 37, UW-Whitewater 33, UW-Eau Claire 29, UW-Platteville 26, UW-Stout 17, UW-Superior 2, UW-River Falls 2.

The competition will continue and conclude on Saturday.
