Three Gymnasts Add All-Academic Honors

Three members of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater gymnastics team have been named to the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association All-Academic Team for the 2010 season.  Justine Weyer (Colgate/Germantown), Traci Jo Korte (New Boston, MI/Huron) and Allison Annala (Oswego/Oswego) were cited for their performance in the classroom and in the gym.

A gymnast must have a cumulative grade point of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or above, must be in their senior year of eligibility, and must have competed in gymnastics for four years.

Weyer is a physicial education major and coaching minor with a 3.18 grade point average.  She won the NCGA vault title at the national meet in March 27 and earned All-America honors in the all-around with a fourth place and by placing tenth on the uneven bars.  She earned more All-America honors, eight, than any UW-W gymnast, in addition to being the first two-time NCGA champion in school history.

Korte is an elementary education major with a minor in coaching.  She has a 3.37 cumulative grade point average.  Korte competed on the uneven bars in the NCGA championship, helping UW-W finish third in the final team standings at the national meet.

Annala is in her second semester of a master's program for health, human performance and recreation.  She had a 4.0 grade point in her first semester of graduate school, and graduated with a 3.82 in her undergraduate work.  She competed on the uneven bars and on the balance beam for UW-W this season.

UW-Whitewater won the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship/NCGA West Regional championship, qualifying for the NCGA national meet.  The team's third place finish in the NCGA championship equaled the school's best ever in the national meet.
