Brawlers Fall to La Crosse

The UW-Whitewater wrestling team, ranked twenty-first in the Brute-Adidas National Wrestling Coaches Association poll, fell to third ranked UW-La Crosse 40-4 in La Crosse Wednesday night.

The match began at the 197 pound weight class with Whitewater's Adam Latella (Rockton, IL/Hononegah) putting four points on the board for the Warhawks with a 16-5 major decision over La Crosse's John Poppie. Latella is now 4-1 this season. La Crosse's William Mayer brought the Eagles to within one of UWW, 4-3, with a 9-4 decision over James Zarate (Waukesha/North).

UW-L recorded pins in the 125, 133 and 141 pound weight classes to take the lead 21-4. Whitewater's Kegan Arthur (Petoskey, MI/Petoskey) moved to 7-2 this season after dropping an 8-2 decision to La Crosse's Matt Mauseth, ranked third nationally at 149 pounds.

UW-W's Cam Loomis (River Falls/River Falls) fell to 0-3 this season after a 10-2 major decision loss to La Crosse's Ryan Farwell. The Eagles' Cory Ferguson, ranked fifth nationally at 165, pinned Whitewater's Adam Zeh (Lombard, IL/Glenbard East) to put UW-L up 34-4.

UW-W's Chesten Kesselhon fell to 3-5 this season after a 9-7 decision loss to UW-L's Scott Gifford at 174 pounds. Warhawk Reid Dickerson (Indianapolis, IN/North Central) went the distance against tenth ranked Eagle Mitch Artist but suffered a 6-3 decision to move to 2-3 this season.

Whitewater is now 0-5 in dual competitions this season.
