The UW-Whitewater volleyball team, ranked eleventh in the American Volleyball Coaches Association top 25 poll, fell to number 25 UW-Platteville 3-1 (26-24, 25-18, 16-25, 25-21) in Platteville Wednesday night.

The Warhawks were handed the loss despite recording the advantage in kills in the match with 50 to Platteville's 43. UW-W posted double figure kills in each of the four sets while holding the Pioneers to just six kills in the third set forcing 13 errors.
Two Warhawk hitters broke into double digit kills in the match,
Sofia Sanchez (Janesville/Craig) recorded 14 and
Caitlin Hogan (New London/New London) pounded down 12 and added three assist blocks.
Ariel Johnston (Rockford, IL/Guilford) provided a presence at the net with four assist blocks.
Christina DeGroot (Kewaskum/Kewaskum) dished out 41 assists to the Warhawk hitters and contributed two service aces. Defensively,
Alyssa Bauer (Naperville, IL/Central) dug up 13 Pioneer attack attempts to lead Whitewater.
The loss marks the first time UW-Platteville has defeated UW-Whitewater during the regular season in at least 15 seasons, as far back as the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference records show.
UW-W moves to 22-7 this season and 6-2 in the WIAC. Platteville improves to 20-3 overall with a 5-2 mark in conference play.
The Warhawks will host the third UW-Whitewater Invitational of the season Friday-Saturday, October 29-30. Participating teams include Lakeland College, Finlandia University, Luther College and Elmhurst College.
