Warhawks Go 2-0 on Day Two of Simpson Invite

On day two of the Simpson Invitational in Indianola, Iowa, the Warhawk volleyball team went 2-0 defeating Wartburg 3-1 and Simpson 3-0.  The Warhawks are 22-6 overall this season.

In their first match, against Wartburg, UW-W notched 52 kills.  Leading the way was Sofia Sanchez (Janesville/Craig) with fifteen.  Sanchez also chipped in eight digs.  Also recording double digit kills were Caitlin Hogan (New London/New London) and Katy Krajnak (Racine/Case).

UW-W tallied thirteen services aces in the match, four apiece by Christina DeGroot (Kewaskum/Kewaskum) and Sanchez, while Hogan recorded three.  DeGroot also dished out 46 assists in the match.

All nine players that participated in a match contributed to the team's 62 digs.  Three players recorded ten or more digs; DeGroot, Tricia Foldy (Muskego/) and Alyssa Bauer (Naperville, IL/Central).

The match against Simpson had eleven Warhawks contribute.  Hogan and Sanchez again had double digit kills, while Bauer and Kelli Trautmann (Seymour/Little Chute) recorded double digit digs.  The Warhawks hit .322 in the match, including a .415 hitting percentage in the third game.

The Warhawks again served the ball well, tallying seven service aces.  Three were by Trautmann, two by Hogan and one apiece for Sanchez and Bauer.

Krajnak and Hogan were named to the eight person all-tournament team.

The Warhawks are back in action on October 20 when they travel to Platteville for a 7:00 pm match.  The match against the Pioneers is the final Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match for the Warhawks who will look to remain in first place heading into the conference tournament.
