Fourth Straight Win for #8 Warhawks

UW-Whitewater, ranked eighth in this week's Division III poll, swept UW-La Crosse 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-19) in La Crosse Wednesday night.

Whitewater got off to a 5-1 start in game one.  La Crosse closed to 11-10, but UW-Whitewater pushed the margin to 15-10, then 20-13.  With the score 20-17, UW-W scored five of the last six points.

Game two began in similar fashion, a 4-1 lead for the Warhawks.   The Eagles evened it at 4-4, but Whitewater controlled the game the rest of the way, leading 17-10, 19-12, and the largest margin of the contest at 22-13.

UW-W led early in game three as well, 4-2, but UW-L tied the match at 5-5 and 8-8, and eventually forged a 13-9 lead.  With the Eagles still in the lead at 14-11, Whitewater scored four in a row to regain the lead at 15-14.  Again La Crosse came back, ahead at 18-16 and 18-17, but the Warhawks scored nine of the last ten points of the game, and the last five, for the win.

Caitlin Hogan (New London/New London) had 12 kills and hit .375, and Katy Krajnak (Racine/Case) contributed 11 kills and a .348 attack percentage.  Alyssa Bauer (Naperville, IL/Central) recorded 19 digs, aided by 10 from Hogan.  Krajnak led UW-W with five blocks, one solo.  Christina DeGroot (Kewaskum/Kewaskum) passed for 38 assists.

Katie Gunderson led UW-L with six kills and Liz Schlobohm hit .375 and had 15 assists.  Melanie Tate led the Eagles with nine digs.

UW-W, winners of four in a row, is 19-5 overall and 6-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.  UW-L is 9-11 overall and 3-4 in the WIAC.

Whitewater will travel to Indianola, Iowa for a Friday-Saturday tournament.  The Warhawks will face fifteenth ranked Saint Olaf College and Gustavus Adolphus College Friday, then Wartburg College and host Simpson College Saturday.
