UW-W Tops Platteville 5-1

Sara Brown (Lake Zurich, IL/Lake Zurich) and Emily Gerber (DeForest/DeForest) scored twice in leading the Warhawks to a 5-1 win over UW-Platteville Wednesday evening at Robert W. Fiskum Field in Whitewater.

Brown opened the scoring at 14:40 with an assist from Stacey Schultz (Menomonee Falls/Menomonee Falls)  That proved to be the only tally of the half, with UW-W in front 1-0 at intermission.

Three minutes into the second half, at 48:32, Gerber booted one in, unassisted, for the game winner.  Platteville cut the margin in half at 48:32 when Sarah Gengler scored her third of the year, unassisted, for the Pioneers.

The Warhawks responded with a surge, scoring three goals in five minutes.  Brown, unassisted, got her third of the year. Gerber her thriteenth, and #Pamela Lisowe her fourth, midway through the second period.  Lisowe also assisted on Gerber's second half goal.

Gerber has moved into a tie for sixth in the Warhawk record book with her thirteen goals.  She is tied with Lindsey Kohlbeck (2005) and Staci Gustafson (2000), and just one short of moving in to a tie for fourth place.

UW-W, with wins in four of its last five matches, upped its mark to 6-4 overall and 2-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.  UW-P is 4-6-2 and 1-3-1.

Whitewater will go on the road, traveling to UW-River Falls for a WIAC match Saturday at 2:00.  The next home match for the Warhawks will be Friday, Occtober 9 at 5:00 against Finlandia College.
