Whitewater went 59 yards in nine plays, scoring on a Levell Coppage (Oak Park, IL/Oak Park) one yard rush, on the first drive of the game.
UW-W's next possession also resulted in another short scoring run by Coppage, this from two yards out to culminate another nine play drive.
Puget Sound made a bid to cut the deficit, taking the ensuing kickoff to their own 34. Facing a fourth and one at the Whitewater 45, Logger quarterback Kavin Williams rushed for two yards to keep the drive alive. UPS drove to the five yard line, earning a first and goal. Three rushes later, with fourth and two, Williams was stopped short of the goal by Justin Ankley (Kenosha/Bradford) and Zach Christopherson (Hartford/Hartford), ending the Loggers' 8:43 possession of the ball.
Whitewater went in to the locker room with the 14-0 lead.
Coppage scored for the third time, another one yard run at 10:11 in the third.
The Warhawk defense stopped UPS in the red zone again, halting a drive when a Williams pass fell incomplete with fourth and six at the UW-W 18.
Two plays later senior quarterback Jeff Donovan (Wauwatosa/East) hooked up with senior wideout Jordan Wells (Elgin, IL/Elgin) on a 77-yard pass to put UW-W up 28-0. That hookup is the longest scoring pass in forty games. You have to go back to October 21, 2006 when Justin Jacobs connected with Derek Stanley on an 80 yard TD in a 49-21 win at UW-Platteville.
Luke Hibner (Elmhurst, IL/York Community) got the ball back for UW-W, knocking the ball loose for Jon Baldwin (Spring Grove, IL/Richmond Burton) to recover at the UPS 32. The Warhawks dusted off a special play on the next down, with Donovan taking the snap and handing the ball to junior wide receiver Aaron Rusch (Hartford/Hartford), who in turn completed a 32 yard scoring pass with junior Adam Brandes (Burlington/Catholic Central). Whitewater led 35-0 with 14:42 left in the game.
It was the C.J. Miller show on Whitewater's next series. The junior running back carried the ball eight straight plays, finishing with a one yard scoring run to up the UW-W lead to 42-0.
Backup QB Spencer Crace pulled the Loggers together to get on the board. He directed a 71 yard drive, using ten plays. Crace went 6-6 for 58 yards on the drive. He teamed up with Ross Zuhl for six yards on the score.
UW-W rolled up 542 yards to 242 for UPS. Coppage led both teams with 134 yards rushing on 20 attempts. The Warhawks averaged 5.6 yards per carry. Puget Sound linebacker led both teams with 11 tackles and a tackle for a loss. Warhawk linebacker Greg Arnold (Big Bend/Mukwonago) tallied ten and two for a loss.
Whitewater senior placekicker Jeff Schebler (Davenport, IA/Assumption), who went 6x6 on point after tries, moved in to first place in the UW-Whitewater and the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in career scoring, with his present total of 369. He broke the marks formerly held by Whitewater's Chad Wurth (366, 2000-2003). Schebler is just fourteen points behind the NCAA III career mark of 383, held by Mike Zimmerman of Mount Union (2005-2007).
