Four Straight Goals Give Warhawks Win Over Pioneers

UW-Whitewater scored four straight goals to defeat Carroll University 4-1 on Wednesday in Whitewater at Robert W. Fiskum field.  The Warhawks move to 5-3-0 while the Pioneers notch their first loss of the season and fall to 4-1-1.

Box Score

UW-W fell behind early on a goal by Cody Callender in the fourth minute.  Just over five minutes later the Warhawks scored the equalizer when Emily Gerber (DeForest/DeForest) found the back of the net on a free kick taken by Becky Cera (Wauwatosa/Wauwatosa West).

Gerber gave the Warhawks the lead in the 21st minute with her tenth goal of the season.  Gerber leads the 'Hawks and the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in goals.

Cera extended UW-W's lead to 3-1 in the 61st minute on a bending shot that found the back of the net after a nifty move shook her free of a defender about twenty yards from the goal.

Cera also had a hand in the final goal finding Pamela Lisowe (New Holstein/New Holstein) for her third goal of the season.  Cera is tied with Stacey Schultz (Menomonee Falls/Menomonee Falls) for the team lead in assists (4).

Jacqueline Piasecki (Elk Grove Village, IL/Conant) was in the net for UW-W and stopped six shots while allowing one goal.  The Warhawks controlled much of the game as the ball spent most of the time in their offensive half.  Carroll had several breakaway opportunities but Piasecki was strong in the net.

The Warhawks play again on Saturday when they travel to Stevens Point to take on the Pointers in a game beginning at 1:00 pm.  Stevens Point is 3-0-0 in the WIAC and 5-1-0 overall.  UW-W is 1-0-0 in conference play.
