The UW-Whitewater men's basketball team, ranked third in the latest D3hoops.com poll, improved their win streak to ten with an 88-62 win over Carroll University Wednesday, December 16. Whitewater improves to 10-0 this season as the Pioneers drop to 4-3.

The Warhawks jumped out to a quick 18-3 lead, going up 21-3 with 13:32 left in the first half. UW-W would extend their lead to 21, 36-15, at 6:18 on a
Phil Negri (Minocgua/Lakeland) three-pointer. Negri went 3-5 from the three-point line and scored all 11 of his points in the first half to lead Whitewater into the locker rooms with a twelve point lead 42-30.
Although Carroll fought back to keep the Warhawks from a blowout lead at halftime, the Pioneers couldn't stop Whitewater in the second half. UW-W built their lead with a ten point run starting at 13:58 with a score of 53-41 and ending with Whitewater up 22, 63-41, with just 9:40 left to play. The Warhawks would build up to a 27 point lead, their largest of the game, with thirty-five seconds left and again with only five seconds to play before settling in for a 26 point victory 88-62.
UW-W out-shot the Pioneers in every facet of the game going 54% (33-61) from the field, 46% (6-13) from the three-point arc and 66% (16-24) from the line. Carroll recorded 40% from the field, 21% for threes and just 53% from the line. The Warhawks out-rebounded Carroll 43-31 and UW-W spread the wealth recording 20 assists to the Pioneer's 8.
Dustin Mitchell (Lac Du Flambeau/Lakeland) led the Warhawks with a double-double dropping 20 on a 7-15 day from the field and grabbing a game high 12 rebounds in the game.
Alex Edmunds (Cedarburg/Cedarburg) went 7-8 from the floor for 14 points. Negri and
Nolan Free (Sheboygan/North) rounded out the double digit scorers for Whitewater with 11 and 10 respectively.
Mike Bendall (Oconomowoc/Oconomowoc) added 10 rebounds.
DJ Dantzler (Joliet, IL/Joilet Township West) dished out a game high four assists and Free added three steals.
Pioneer John Hoch led all scorers with 24. Eric Williams added 11 more to the Pioneers total. Taylor Jannsen stood his ground with three blocks and Paul Grosshuesch led Carroll with six rebounds.
UW-W returns to Whitewater for a game against Augustana Tuesday, December 22 in Kachel Gymnasium at 7 p.m.
