Men's Soccer Tops Oshkosh, Look Ahead to NCAA

Luke Buchholz (Whitewater/Whitewater)'s header at 54:43 gave UW-Whitewater a 1-0 win over UW-Oshkosh Saturday night at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.  The win ups UW-W's record to 11-5-3 with the Warhawks awaiting word on a possible berth in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III tournament.  The tourney field will be announced Monday.

In a game that featured stout defense and extensive midfield play, UW-W almost got on the board at the 15:00 mark, with Luke Buchholz (Whitewater/Whitewater) hitting the post and a followup by Zach Rewasiewicz (South Milwaukee/South Milwaukee) going high. 

Buchholz's goal was the second header in a flurry in front of the Oshkosh net.  The first header, by Luke Mangognia (Hoffman Estates, IL/Palatine) hit the post and Buchholz cleaned up with his team leading twelth goal of the year.  Buchholz had five shots in the match.  

The statistics were as even as the score.  UW-W had seven shots, UW-O ten.  Whitewater had six corner kicks, Oshkosh three.  The Warhawks had nine fouls, the Titans ten. 

Andrew Krueger (New Berlin/Catholic Memorial) registered the win in goal for UW-W, his third shutout of the season with four saves.  Krueger is 6-3-3 in the nets for the Warhawks.
