Ninth-ranked UW-Whitewater opened play in the Leopard Invitational, hosted by the University of La Verne in La Verne, California, with a 3-1 (25-22,18-25,25-20,25-20) win over Chapman University (CA).
Melissa Zuleger (Little Chute/Little Chute) and
Shaela Hayden (Harvard, IL/Harvard) each had nine kills for UW-W, with Zuleger adding four blocks (2 solo).
Caitlin Hogan (New London/New London) served three aces, and
Alyssa Bauer (Naperville, IL/Central) had three aces and a team-high 19 digs.
Keri Klotzbuecher (Clintonville/Clintonville) helped the Warhawks with 16 digs.
UW-W, now 16-4, has a seven match win streak. The loss was Chapman's first in their last four matches. Chapman is 10-8 this season.
The Warhawks will continue play late Friday night, facing host La Verne (9-9) at 9:00 Central time. UW-W will conclude play in the Leopard Invitational Saturday, facing New York University (17-5) and Nazareth College (18-6).
Whitewater will return home to host UW-Eau Claire Friday, October 16 at 7:00 pm and UW-Superior at noon Saturday the 17th. Both matches will be played in the Williams Center volleyball arena on campus.
