Warhawks Win Tenth in a Row

UW-Whitewater, ranked sixth in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25 poll, won their tenth straight match with a 3-1 (25-13, 16-25, 25-20, 26-24) victory over Elmhurst College on Wednesday in Illinois.  The Warhawks are 26-5 overall and the Bluejays fall even to 16-16 on the season.

box score (available on 10/29)

Alyssa Bauer (Naperville, IL/Central) inched closer to the record for digs in a season recording 22 in the match.  Bauer currently sits in eighth in the record books with 570 digs this season.  The first place mark for digs in a season has been set at 686 by two Warhawk volleyball players.  Stephanie Everett first accomplished the feat in 1997 and then Angie Wildish matched it in 2001.

Other significant contributors were Keri Klotzbuecher (Clintonville/Clintonville) who tallied 13 kills and 14 digs; Caitlin Hogan (New London/New London) added to her team lead in kills by pounding down 12 more to give her 302 thus far; and Katy Krajnak (Racine/Case) played strong at the net notching eight kills while having a hand in five blocks.

This is the second time this season these two teams have faced off against one another, the first taking place on September 26.  The result of that match was the same as the Warhawks won on their home court 3-1.

UW-W will play again this upcoming weekend when they host their fourth and final Invitational of the season.  Along with the Warhawks there will be six other teams participating: Millikin University, UW-Platteville, Lakeland College, Carthage College, St. Ambrose University and Simpson College.

The invitational will conclude regular season competition for UW-W.  The Warhawks, who finished second in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, will have a first round bye in the upcoming conference tournament.  Their second round game will be played on the campus of UW-Oshkosh, the regular season WIAC champion, against the winner of UW-Stevens Point and UW-Platteville.  The first round match between the Pointers and the Pioneers will take place on Tuesday, November 3.  The Warhawks' second round match will take place on Friday, November 6 at 5:00 pm.  The winner of the WIAC tournament earns an automatic berth into the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III tournament.
