Warhawks Sweep Central and Coe to Go 4-0 at UW-W Invitational

The UW-Whitewater volleyball team, ranked eighth according to the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, finished the UW-Whitewater Invitational with two sweeps. The first match of the Saturday featured the Warhawks defeating Central College 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-22) and the second match was a sweep of Coe College 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-18). UW-W's front row proved to be too much for Central as they propelled Whitewater to the sweep. The team totaled 14.5 blocks, including six solo and 17 assisted and pounded down 35 kills during the match.

Melissa Zuleger (Little Chute/Little Chute) led the Warhawks with 10 kills and added five blocks (two solo). Caitlin Hogan (New London/New London) pitched in six more blocks, including three solo while Katy Krajnak (Racine/Case) had a hand in four of the teams 17 assist blocks.

Alyse Karls (Dane/Lodi) led UW-W defensively with 14 digs. Annie Berkley (Racine/Washington Park) also recorded double-digit digs with 11.

The Warhawks hit .395 in the second match with 43 kills. UW-W also had a total of nine service aces.

Sofia Sanchez (Janesville/Craig) and Hogan recorded double-digit kills with 13 and 10 respectively. Alyssa Bauer (Naperville, IL/Central) led UW-W defensively with 10 digs. Shaela Hayden (Harvard, IL/Harvard)'s four aces helped propel Whitewater to the win.

The two wins Saturday improve the Warhawks' overall record to 25-5 as Central drops to 19-21 and Coe to 8-22 on the season.

Whitewater will travel to Elmhurst, IL for a match Wednesday, October 28 against Elmhurst College at 7:00 p.m.
