Warhawks Shoot Their Way Past Eagles

The UW-Whitewater women's soccer team traveled to UW-La Crosse on Saturday afternoon and beat the Eagles 3-0 at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. With the win the Warhawks are now 8-6-1, 3-3-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, with one conference game remaining while UW-La Crosse finishes the conference season 2-6 and 3-10-1 overall.

The Warhawks did not waste much time in starting the scoring when Emily Gerber (DeForest/DeForest) scored at the 5:22 mark in the first half. Kayla Miller (Racine/Case) contributed with the assist. Gerber came back with a quick strike again when she scored at the 6:15 mark in the first half with the assist by Becky Cera (Wauwatosa/Wauwatosa West)

In the first half, the 'Hawks had a total of 13 shots with five corner kicks with a total of 22 shots in the game and eight corner kicks . UW-La Crosse had seven shots and one corner kick total for the game.

UW-W finished their scoring at the 69:32 mark when Miller scored her first goal of the season with the assist by Sara Brown (Lake Zurich, IL/Lake Zurich) and Cera to close the game for the 'Hawks 3-0.

With her two goals in the game, Gerber pushed her season total to 19 goals with three games to play in the regular season. She is the top goal scorer in the WIAC this year and points leader with 39 points.

The Warhawks will travel next to Chicago to take on North Park University on Sunday at 3:30 pm at the Holmgrem Complex.
