UW-Whitewater, ranked ninth in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association top 25, lost 3-1 (23-25, 25-23, 28-26, 25-19) to the host school, University of La Verne, at the Leopard Inviational in La Verne, California on Friday. The Warhawks fall to 16-5 overall and the Leopards improve to 11-10.

The 'Hawks won the first game but dropped the next three, all of which were tight games. UW-W was led by Alyse Karls (Dane/Lodi) who dished out 52 assists and Shaela Hayden (Harvard, IL/Harvard) who notched 15 kills. The Warhawks tallied 98 digs as a team, led by Alyssa Bauer (Naperville, IL/Central) with 23 and Keri Klotzbuecher (Clintonville/Clintonville) with 20. Also recording double-digit kill totals were Caitlin Hogan (New London/New London) and Klotzbuecher who had 12 and 13 respectively.
The 'Hawks did tally five service aces, but had ten service errors. Statistically the Warhawks had a stronger showing than the host Leopards, but they weren't able to pull it out.
UW-W will play again on Saturday against New York University and Nazareth College.
