The UW-Whitewater women's soccer team battled WIAC leader UW-Eau Claire for 110 minutes and came away with a 1-1 tie. The game was littered with numerous scoring opportunities where both goalkeepers made great saves or shots narrowly missed the goal. The tie is the first of the season for UW-W who is now 6-5-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Blugolds are 8-3-2 overall and 5-0-1 in the WIAC.

The Warhawks looked like they were going to control the entire game with a goal in the second minute of the game.
Sara Brown (Lake Zurich, IL/Lake Zurich) found
Stacey Schultz (Menomonee Falls/Menomonee Falls) for her first goal of the season to give the 'Hawks a 1-0 lead.
Eau Claire answered with an unassisted goal by Lisa Marco in the seventh minute.
The Warhawks looked to go ahead in the 12th minute after two hard Warhawk shots were blocked by Blugold defenders. The remainder of the first half was balanced in terms of possession and shots. The Warhawks attempted six shots in the first half while Eau Claire attempted seven.
UW-W got off a cluster of shots in the 65th minute but a couple of saves by the UW-EC goalkeeper and a block by one of the defenders kept the game knotted at 1-1. The best scoring opportunity in the second half for UW-Eau Claire came in the final minute when Shyla Gilbertson shot one high over the goalie's head the hit the crossbar and went out.
Both overtime periods featured balanced attack from both teams. The second overtime was far more active as Eau Claire attempted six shots and UW-W attempted four. A narrow miss by
Becky Cera (Wauwatosa/Wauwatosa West) in the final overtime was the 'Hawks best chance to win the game.
Jacqueline Piasecki (Elk Grove Village, IL/Conant) spent the entire game in the net for UW-W and made two saves to go along with several great plays that involved her coming way off the line to stop a potential breakaway. Blugold goalkeeper Emily Kidd also played a strong game making nine saves and several other timely plays.
The Warhawks play again on Wednesday when they travel to UW-Oshkosh for a WIAC game beginning at 6:30 pm.
