Fassbender won the 5,000-meter run with a personal record time of 14:14.34, the No. 3 mark in NCAA Division III according to the TFRRS performance list, at the Midwest Elite Invitational on Saturday at Kachel Fieldhouse. His time, which topped a field of 50 runners and was 12 seconds faster than the runner-up, shattered an 11-year-old school record (Brian Butzler, 14:21.70 in 2011) and a 10-year-old facility record (Tim Nelson of UW-Stout, 14:20.72 in 2012). His performance helped UW-Whitewater finish third out of nine teams at the meet.
