Shinhoster finished second at 184 pounds with a 3-1 record including one pin and one technical fall Saturday at the CUW Open in Mequon. Ranked No. 2 in the nation by the National Wrestling Coaches Association and No. 3 by D3wrestle.com, Shinhoster pinned Luke Gentry of Wheaton (Ill.) in the first period and posted a 16-1 technical fall against David Papach of No. 2 ranked Wartburg (Iowa) in the quarterfinals. He then defeated Charles Baczek of Wabash (Ind.), listed as a contender by D3wrestle.com, by a 4-1 decision in the semifinal. Shinhoster suffered his first loss of the season in the final against consensus No. 1 Shane Liegel of Loras (Iowa) in a 7-4 decision.
