Gawenda qualified for the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Championships in both the 60-meter dash and the long jump for the Warhawk men's track and field team in 2020. He placed ninth in the long jump and 26th in the 60-meter dash at the conference meet. Gawenda posted career bests in both events during the 2020 campaign, including a time of 7.11 in the 60 and a distance of 22-06.50 (6.87 meters) in the long jump. As a sophomore in 2019, he reached the podium in the long jump at the WIAC Outdoor Championships, finishing fifth with a 22-01.50 (6.74 meters). Gawenda also competed in the 60-meter hurdles as a freshman during the 2018 indoor season. A two-year member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll, Gawenda is majoring in information technology.
