Zimmerman was a two-time College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-America® selection for the Warhawk men's track and field team, claiming third team accolades in 2019 and second team honors in 2020. He qualified for the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Championships, placing 17th in the shot put. Zimmerman, a four-time WIAC top-eight finishers for his career, posted a career-best 52-09.50 (16.09 meters) in the shot put and added a personal-record 155-07 (47.43 meters) in the discus throw during the 2019 outdoor season. He is a four-year member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll, a two-year captain, a two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic selection and a 2019-20 UW-Whitewater Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete. Zimmerman graduated with a bachelor's in accounting in May.
