Steve Klaas

Steve Klaas starts his eighth year as an assistant coach for the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's tennis teams in 2016-17. Klaas' experience includes:
 
* At Brookfield Central High School, Klaas was a four-year varsity letter winner and was a member of the 2000 and 2001 Wisconsin state championship teams. He was also a state qualifier in the singles individual state tournament.
 
* At UW-Whitewater, Klaas enjoyed a standout career, starting and lettering all four years in singles and doubles. He amassed 163 combined single and doubles wins, the all-time record in Warhawk tennis history at the time of his graduation. He was an individual conference champion in singles and doubles and a member of the conference championship teams in 2005, 2006 and 2007. He was named the team's Rookie of the Year and Most Improved his freshman year. He earned the Ron Wangerin Coach's Award his sophomore year. Klaas was the team MVP his junior year, and received the Stanley Brink Sportsmanship award his senior year.
 
* Klaas graduated in 2007 with a BBA-Informative Technology Infrastructure degree with a 3.5 GPA. He was a Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete and an ITA Scholar-Athlete, and was consistently on the Dean's List. Klaas is now pursuing a career as a tennis teaching professional.
 
* Klass is in his fifth year as Director of Tennis and Head Professional at Nakoma Golf Club in Madison, Wis. He most recently served as Tennis Director at Geneva National in Lake Geneva, Wis., and Head Tennis Professional at Four Lakes Athletic Club in Elkhorn, Wis. As a USPTA (P1) certified teaching professional with 13-plus years of teaching experience, Klaas has taught Midwest and nationally-ranked juniors. He has worked the Warhawk Tennis Camps for eight years and has taught tennis to deaf and hard of hearing children at the Wisconsin Lions Camp for three summers.
