His role also included the oversight of all UW-Whitewater Camps and Clinics, where he worked closely with the UW-W Athletic Department.

A UW-Whitewater graduate, Callahan was a pitcher for the Warhawk baseball team from 2001-04. He was a three-time all-conference selection and part of three Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season championships, two conference tournament titles and three NCAA Tournament appearances, including a 2004 trip to the NCAA Championship round. He was inducted into the UW-Whitewater Athletics Hall of Fame in 2019.

As Assistant AD for Internal Operations, Callahan was responsible for all financial aspects of the department, including budgeting, financial forecasting and liaison to several campus departments. He also oversaw game management and played a role in NCAA/postseason reporting, capital projects and strategic planning.
