Jim Savage enters his first season as an assistant coach for the UW-Whitewater wrestling team in 2017-18.

An Ohio native, Savage attended Lassen Community College in Susanville, Calif., where he wrestled for two seasons before completing his associate's degree.

After volunteering at the University of Pennsylvania, Savage moved to California, where he competed in mixed martial arts for 10 years before moving to Chicago, where he trained athletes in boxing, kickboxing and strength and conditioning.

Savage currently works at Focus Sports in Delavan.
