Dawson Miller enters his fourth season as an assistant coach for the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater cross country teams in 2018.
A native of Whitewater, Miller enjoyed a standout, four-year career as a runner for both the Warhawk men’s cross country and track and field teams from 2011-15.
In cross country, he earned a trip to the NCAA Division III Championships as a senior in 2014, placing 86th out of 280 runners. He was an NCAA All-Midwest Region and second team All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honoree during the same year.
Miller was a six-time All-American in track and field, including three times in his signature event, the 3,000-meter steeplechase. He won the national championship in the steeplechase in 2015 with a career-best time of 8:46.58 after finishing as national runner-up in 2014 and in third place in 2013. Miller ended his career as the school record holder in the steeplechase, the indoor 3,000-meter run and the distance medley relay.
A four-time USTFCCCA All-Academic selection and four-year member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll, Miller was a three-time conference champion in the steeplechase and a 10-time All-WIAC honoree overall. He was a UW-Whitewater Chancellor’s Scholar-Athlete and team captain in 2015.
Miller also served as director of operations for the track and field programs in 2016 and 2017.
Miller graduated from UW-Whitewater in 2015 with a bachelor’s in finance.
